Adolescent Information

Demographics: Mariah is a 16-year-old, fourth-generation Latina female.

Medical/Developmental history – Mariah’s medical history is significant for early maturation/early age of menarche (age 9). She also has a history of childhood obesity, although she has been at normal weight since age 12. Her medical history is otherwise unremarkable. She reached all her developmental milestones within normal limits.

Family history – Mariah was born into a two-parent family, but her biological father left when she was 2 years old. Her mother raised her as a single-parent for most of her childhood. The family lived in an urban environment with moderate crime levels, and they struggled financially for many years. Mariah is an only child. Mariah reports that her relationship with her mother has been rocky in the past, and she describes that her mother was a “strict disciplinarian” for most of her childhood. This caused significant conflict in her early adolescent years when she felt her mother was being too controlling. Two years ago, Mariah’s mother re-married and the family has experienced increased financial stability and has moved into a less-dangerous neighborhood. Mariah gets along well with her step-father, and since he has moved into the home, she notes that her mother’s parenting style has become more balanced. This has helped improve Mariah’s relationship with her mother considerably. Also, since the wedding, the family has been regularly attending a nondenominational Christian church, and Mariah has started attending youth group and volunteering in the church nursery. She notes that in the last year, she has tried to spend time praying and reading the Bible on her own.

Social history – Throughout childhood, Mariah has always had a small group of close-knit female friends from her neighborhood who are also Latina. She reports that her mother has always been “over-protective” and does not let her go many places. Her mother is always reminding her about the dangers she faces as a minority and often warns her about discrimination and being too trusting of others.

Mariah reports that she has generally stayed out of trouble; however, her friends have convinced her to smoke marijuana several times in the past. At first, she enjoyed the behavior because it felt new and exciting. However, she reports that in the last year it has started bothering her conscience. She knows that certain important people in her life (e.g., her mother, her youth pastor) would be very disappointed in her if they found out. She wants to be seen as a “good” person and feels that she is not living up to that standard by doing drugs. Therefore, she reports that she has not smoked in the last 10 months. She reports that in the last year she has been spending less time with her old friends and more time with other youth from church, although she still tends to gravitate to the other Latina girls at church.
Mariah has had a few boyfriends in the past (that her mother does not know about), and she used to sneak out of the house to see them. She reports that she is used to getting a lot of attention from males, as this has been the case for the past several years. However, she reports that she has not dated in the last year because she is trying to focus on school, explore her relationship with God, and “find herself.”

Academic history – Mariah attends public school and always has. In the past, she has received low grades. Within the last couple years (when entering high school), however, she has experienced increased motivation for school and her grades have steadily improved. She states that one of her main motivations for improving her grades is so that she can help provide for her mother if needed in the future. She reports having to battle “test anxiety” in science and math classes, since she has heard that females and minorities do more poorly in those subjects. She reported that her mother has always wanted her to grow up and be a doctor so she could make a better life for herself. Throughout her childhood, she was convinced that she would indeed take that path; however, in the last year she has started having doubts and has started to explore other future career options.

Psychological history – Mariah has not been formally diagnosed with any psychological disorders. However, she does report that she believes she has been depressed in the past, and she experienced significantly low mood throughout most of her early adolescence. Even though she is now at a normal weight, she still feels fat sometimes and has battled significant issues with self-esteem in the past. However, she reports that her mood has improved significantly over the last couple of years and that she finally feels like she is getting her life together.

Short Answer Questions

Directions:
Read each question and in the box below provide your answer with appropriate research support. For full credit, each answer must include at least one citation from a course reading applied to Mariah’s life. Aim to answer each question in one or two paragraphs (answers can be single spaced). Include an APA-style reference page at the end of your assignment. Each answer is worth 10.5 points.

1. How might Mariah’s early maturation have influenced the development of any internalizing/psychological problems
and externalizing/behavioral problems (see Susman & Dorn, 2009)? Be sure to address both types of outcomes.

2. What family factors might have influenced the development of Mariah’s early menarche (see Susman & Dorn, 2009)? Include details of the family environment and parental relationship.

3. What stage of Marcia’s theory of identity formation would you place Mariah into currently and why (see Côté, 2009 and module video)? Be sure to explain and relate the concepts of both exploration/choice
and commitment in your answer.

4. How might research related to adolescent judgement and decision making explain some of Mariah’s behavioral decisions (see Albert & Steinberg, 2011)? Be sure to include a discussion of how adolescent perception of risks vs. benefits might have influenced her choices.

5. What stage in Kohlberg’s Moral (Justice-Oriented) Reasoning theory would you place Mariah into and why (see Eisenberg et al., 2009 and module video)?

6. How might Mariah’s religious/spiritual development have influenced her psychological, behavioral, and social outcomes in the last couple years since she began attending church (see King & Roeser, 2009)?

7. According to Fuligni et al. (2009), how might ethnicity be related to the characteristics
and quality of Mariah’s friendships? Additionally, how might racial socialization from Mariah’s mother have impacted her friendships?

8. Discuss the role that ethnicity might play in Mariah’s current and past educational experiences (see Fuligni et al., 2009)? Additionally, how does Mariah’s experience of familism/family obligation impact her academic experiences?

9. Discuss
two ways that Mariah’s experiences match with or contradict gender research presented by Perry and Pauletti (2011).

10. Discuss
two Biblical verses that could be used to encourage Mariah in the changes she is making spiritually, behaviorally, socially, or psychologically. Be sure that you are not simply quoting Scripture, but that you are also providing application and discussion from a Christian viewpoint. Note that a research citation is
not required for this answer.

find an article or news story about some whistleblowing situation.  Please do not use high-profile cases like Snowden or Manning. If you can  find the same story described by different sources all the better. Do  not use some personal experience unless it was discussed in credible new  sources. I need to be able to verify the account.  Then,  using the attached worksheet discuss the case. Specifically, after  telling me a sentence or two about the case, you will identify all of  the key stakeholders and how you feel they were negatively impacted. For  example, if someone released company records and emails to blow the  whistle, discuss whose emails and how the information led to actions  against them. If no one was negatively impacted, then why use it for  this case study?  Discuss  the final outcome (see directions) and most importantly, use your moral  compass to describe or explain why you feel someone’s actions were  morally wrong. Again, if there was no wrongdoing, why was some whistle  blown?

Finally,  imagine you are in a leadership position. What could you reasonably do  to keep the situation from happening again, to prevent the need for  someone to feel a need to blow the whistle? Depending on the situation,  you may feel the real wrongdoer is the whistleblower. If so, then  describe why what the company/government did or is doing is justified,  again using your moral theories.
This  case study will be evaluated using the attached grading table. Please  use this to your advantage to check your work before submitting. Be sure  to apply at least one ethical system in depth, including the  application of at least 3 specific aspects of that system to the  analysis of all parts of the worksheet/case study.

James Fowler was an American theologian who was the professor of Theology and Human Development at Emory University. He has produced several pieces of literature illustrating his theory of faith development. This week, you will review an article that introduces his stages of faith in relation to the developmental concepts you have learned about in this course. Faith theorists recognize the complex interplay of factors that impact one’s faith development. Development of faith, like other aspects of human development, involves movement from one stage to another and is not always systematic or predictable. Individuals can reach chronologic and biological adulthood while reflecting structural stages of faith that are more indicative of early or middle childhood or adolescence. Spiritual nurturing and practice, combined with a person’s spiritual aptitude and discipline, impacts the pace and depth of faith development. After reading and reflecting on the article, develop your thread addressing these questions: What are your impressions of faith development in relation to an individual’s other developmental processes? Do you feel that there is interconnection, or do you oppose the idea that successful faith development requires successful development in other areas? Explain your answer using examples and support from the article and/or other sources of information.

Using your personal experiences, briefly describe some of the most meaningful characteristics of your faith development process. If there were pivotal moments or notable influences, good and bad, mention the significance of those people or events. Only include the most relevant details. Make sure to relate your thread to elements of Fowler’s faith development theory and your specific experiences.

Consider how the role of quality improvements and quality improvement theories might affect how you interact and treat your patients. How do you determine what will meet the needs of those you serve, as well as what will meet the needs of your nursing practice?

Leading Organizations for Quality Improvement Initiative

DEFINITIONS OF QUALITY
INTRODUCTION
Consider how the role of quality improvements and quality improvement theories might affect how you interact and treat your patients. How do you determine what will meet the needs of those you serve, as well as what will meet the needs of your nursing practice?
Whether through specific data driven inquires, government agencies, advocacy groups, or education, there are many ways in which quality is measured, assessed, and evaluated in the field of nursing. With the focus always on patient care and safety, these quality measures allow a future DNP-prepared nurse to consider the best approaches to treating and caring for patients.
This week, you will explore quality indicators to improve patient care. You will explore the different theories and practices of quality improvement and consider the influence of these theories and practices on the field of nursing.

Discussion
QUALITY INDICATORS
Florence Nightingale introduced research to the field of nursing, and with this introduction, a focus on improving patient care has continued to be at the forefront of nursing practice. Improving patient care lends itself to the study of quality care and patient safety, and nurse-sensitive quality indicators highlight the elements of healthcare in which patients are directly impacted by the care provided by nurses.
What are nurse-sensitive indicators? What elements of a patient’s care are directly impacted by the role and delivery of care of nurses? How might these nurse-sensitive indicators change healthcare delivery and the nursing profession for a future DNP-prepared nurse?
For this Discussion, you will explore your understanding of nurse-sensitive indicators of quality by reflecting on those quality indicators that may pertain most to your practice setting. You will conduct a literature search for articles that address these quality indicators and reflect on the connections between the quality indicators and quality improvement theories and philosophies.
TO PREPARE:
· Review the Learning Resources on quality indicators for this week. Focus on those quality indicators that most pertain to your practice setting.
· Consider the influence of early quality improvement theories and philosophies on the development of those quality indicators.
· Using the Walden Library, locate at least two scholarly research articles to focus on, for this Discussion, that discuss how quality indicators may influence your practice setting.
· Select one definition of quality published by any peer-reviewed source that particularly resonates with your thinking about quality.
· Identify and select at least two nurse-sensitive indicators of quality related to patient care. Note: Do not select nurse-sensitive indicators related to staffing.
Post a brief description of the two nurse-sensitive indicators of quality that you selected. Analyze the influence of early quality improvement theories and philosophies on the development of the quality indicators you selected. Be specific. Then, cite the two (2) nursing research articles you selected, and explain how these indicators may influence your practice setting. Be specific and provide examples.

What is your dream job as it relates to your chosen profession of design? Is it unreasonable to reach for that job that you have been dreaming about since you were a kid, the whole reason why you went to school in the first place?

What is your dream job as it relates to your chosen profession of design? Is it unreasonable to reach for that job that you have been dreaming about since you were a kid, the whole reason why you went to school in the first place?
Write 2-4 pages that describe your perfect job scenario as it relates to design. Be sure to include why you chose a particular studio or career path and what strategies you may use to reach this goal. Make sure that you are considering actual viable positions with an existing studio, and include links to at least 3 job postings online that represent the type of job you’d love to nab. While considering that ideal job also think about strategies you can use over the next year that may lead you to reaching that long-term goal.
