Understand that the main intent of these discussions is to hold a dialogue. Kindly begin work onthis discussion well in advance of the deadline to insure that your classmates are afforded ample time torespond to your posts. Waiting until the last minute to complete this assignment will allow yourclassmates less time to interact with you and may defeat the purpose of the assignment.
To prepare for writing your discussion post and responses, follow these steps:
1. For a background to gerrymandering, reference course materials and watch this video thatpresents an overview on how legislators stay in power as a result of legislative redistricting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s6erd5MbEY
2. Next, go to the Texas Tribune website that shows the new voting maps based on the 2020Census, and type in your address to view any changes between the 2010 and 2020 voting maps:
https://apps.texastribune.org/features/2021/texas-redistricting-map/ (Links to an external site.)
    • Consider how demographic changes like race, ethnicity, or partisanship influence voting and electionoutcomes.    • Think about political motivations for making these particular changes between the 2010 and 2020maps.
3. In a concise (250-300 words) post, answer the following questions utilizing course materials, concepts, and the information above:
    • How will the demographic and geographical changes between your 2010 and 2020 voting districtchange political outcomes for elections? How does gerrymandering affect you or voters in thedistrict?
    • How do historical, social, political, economic, and cultural forces in Texas manifest in thelegislature’s and parties’ use of gerrymandering? Consider Texas’s political cultures, dominantideologies, partisanship, and social or demographic changes in this answer.
4. After you have submitted your post, respond in 100-150 words to TWO posts from your peersand offer a thoughtful response to what you have read.
    • You can respond either to fellow students’ primary post or to their response to your primary post.
    • Use course materials and concepts in your answers, too, to help you formulate your thoughts.

For this forum, discuss your belief on “tech giants” violating antitrust laws.

Jessica, a registered nurse (RN), and her husband are finally leaving on their vacation trip. They pull up at a red light as it is about to change to green. They watch in horror as a large truck, moving fast down a hill, in unable to stop before crashing into a van carrying a mother and her child. The van is thrown into the air and lands in a small park. Jessica runs over to offer aid. She finds a semi-conscious woman in the driver’s seat and an unconscious 4-year-old little boy in the back seat strapped into his car seat. The mother asks Jessica if Christopher is all right before she slips into unconsciousness. Christopher is unconscious and not breathing with his head down and touching his chest. He has a gash bleeding on the side of his head caused by his tricycle flying over the back seat during the crash. A truck driver, who also stopped to give help, yells in the window at Jessica, “Don’t move him!” Jessica knows that she has to get Christopher’s breathing started. Even though the truck driver is still yelling at her not to move the boy, she gently lifts his head off his chest. Christopher, still unconscious, starts breathing immediately. Jessica stops the bleeding on his head by applying pressure using a clean handkerchief from her husband. Emergency help arrives ten minutes later. Instructions: Read the scenario above and then, answer the following questions: In your opinion, even though Jessica knew that, in most cases, an injured victim should not be moved, did she do the right thing by moving Christopher’s chin up so he could breathe? Was Jessica covered by the Good Samaritan law or was she held to a higher standard since she had a nursing license? Would Jessica have been covered by the Good Samaritan law if Christopher had not started breathing when she moved his head and he had suffered further injury from the movement? Was Jessica, an RN, legally required to stop and provide aid? Was she ethically obligated to stop and provide aid? In your opinion, is it always a good idea to stop and give assistance at an accident site before medical help arrives?

Because reaching members of the Indigenous community that live in remote areas is difficult, public health professionals often take a “horizontal” approach to healthcare, i.e., if contact with a specific community is established for addressing health condition X, information about addressing health conditions Y and Z which are prevalent in that community is also given at that time. This avoids the costs and efforts of re-establishing contact with them to address health conditions Y and Z. On similar lines, the case study detailed how the Yapatjarra shared care facility was established for antenatal care. Based on the life course perspective, what might some other information be that you, as a public health professional, would like to give to the pregnant individual and their family so as to have a healthy baby and life?

Some not-for-profit organizations have local goals. For example, a city’s arts council may want to provide artistic expression and performance opportunities for its residents. Others have global goals, like Feed the World, which works with developing countries to support self-reliance and sustainable farming. Both types of goals represent opportunities for growth. In this discussion, address the following:     Choose one way that a not-for-profit organization can grow: collaboration, partnership, or merger. What are the pros and cons of this growth strategy? What type of organization is likely to benefit from this strategy? Why?
