  • Draft a 6-page report on outcome measures, issues, and opportunities for the executive leadership team or applicable stakeholder group.
    Introduction
Note: Each assessment in this course builds on the work you completed in the previous assessment. Therefore, you must complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.
As a nurse leader, you may be called upon to submit a detailed report to your executive leadership team and key stakeholders that describes a quality or safety problem and its effects on outcomes, fully supported by relevant and credible data.
This assessment provides an opportunity to draft such a report in which you can call attention to quality and safety issues and opportunities, effectively support your position, and lay out a plan for change.
This assessment is based on the executive summary you prepared in the previous assessment.
    Preparation
Your executive summary captured the attention and interest of the executive leadership team, who have asked you to provide them with a detailed report addressing outcome measures and performance issues or opportunities, including a strategy for ensuring that all aspects of patient care are measured.
Note: As you revise your writing, check out the resources listed on the Writing Center’s Writing Supportpage.
As you prepare to complete this assessment, you may want to think about other related issues to deepen your understanding or broaden your viewpoint. You are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community. Note that these questions are for your own development and exploration and do not need to be completed or submitted as part of your assessment.

    • How might you engage stakeholders to help develop, implement, and sustain a vision to actually change and improve patient outcomes?
    • What arguments might be most effective in obtaining agreement and support?

If you were able to relive that experience, how would you change the way that you approached the encountered problem?

Consider your experiences at work, school, and in your personal life. You have, at some point, been asked to work with a group to achieve a particular goal. It might have been a group research project, a new marketing plan, a learning plan, a schedule to roll out new technology, planning a wedding, or even planning and creating a large family meal. In many collaborative efforts like these, there are disagreements. Select one collaborative experience from your past that involved some disagreements or significant differences of opinion.

Describe the project that you were working on, including the people involved.

  1. Explain the problem that you encountered with the group. How was that problem overcome? What was the end result of encountering and dealing with that problem?
  2. What do you think was the cause of the problem? How much of the problem came from miscommunication, either from you or from other people involved? What did you do to help resolve the problem?
  3. If you were able to relive that experience, how would you change the way that you approached the encountered problem? How would you communicate differently?
  4. How, ultimately, was the conflict resolved?

How would Aristotle’s happiness as “functioning well” balance Mill’s notion of utilitarianism as “the greatest good for the greatest number”?

Compare and contrast the priorities of the Federalists and Antifederalists for the design of the new Constitution.

Post at least one response for each topic below:

  1. Compare and contrast the priorities of the Federalists and Antifederalists for the design of the new Constitution. Although the Federalists argued for a stronger central      government (and in many ways, they got one), the Antifederalists won      important battles, such as the adoption of the Bill of Rights and the      retention of power in the states. What does the debate between Federalists      and Antifederalists tell us about American politics in the late eighteenth      century? In what ways are the values and concerns of these two groups      similar to or different from today’s political debates?

2. Combating terrorism has      entailed restrictions on civil liberties. How can we reconcile civil      liberty and national security? Are we better off opting for more liberty      or more security? Are the two goals mutually exclusive? Have Americans      become less supportive of the limitations on liberty put into place after      the terror attacks in 2001, or do they still perceive that it makes sense      to give up some liberties in order to feel more secure?

Explain how this information may impact the way you prescribe medications to patients.

As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, it is essential for you to have a strong background in foundational neuroscience. In order to diagnose and treat patients, you must not only understand the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders but also how medications for these disorders impact the central nervous system. These concepts of foundational neuroscience can be challenging to understand. Therefore, this Discussion is designed to encourage you to think through these concepts, develop a rationale for your thinking, and deepen your understanding by interacting with your colleagues.

For this Discussion/Case study , review the readings and videos and reflect on the concepts of foundational neuroscience as they might apply to your role as the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in prescribing medications for patients.

Post a response to each of the following:

  1. Choose one case in the video section.
  2. Explain
  3. Explain how this information may impact the way you prescribe medications to patients. Include a specific example of a situation or case with a patient in which the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner must be aware of the medication’s action.

What is your responsibility as a primary care provider to this patient once a disorder has been identified?

Depression

Depression is a common psychiatric disorder in children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Primary care providers, not mental health professionals, treat most patients with symptoms of depression. Persons who are depressed have feelings of sadness, loneliness, irritability, worthlessness, hopelessness, agitation, and guilt that may be accompanied by an array of physical symptoms as well as substance abuse. Identifying patients with depression and substance abuse can be difficult in busy primary care settings where time is limited, but certain depression/substance abuse screening tools may help diagnose the disorder.

Discuss a screening tool that can be used in the primary care setting that can help with the identification of patients with depression and or substance abuse. What is your responsibility as a primary care provider to this patient once a disorder has been identified?
